You’ve seen the news from this weekend: Seattle police officers once again targeted protesters, media, nurses, legal observers, and Capitol Hill residents with flash bangs, pepper spray, and other weapons in their most brutal attack yet.
It's time for Mayor Durkan to be removed. See below for the actions you can take.
At every point over the past two months Mayor Durkan has enabled, supported, and defended police violence against protesters calling for racial justice in Seattle. She refused to sign council legislation banning the use of tear gas and pepper spray. And, in recent days, she collaborated with the Trump justice department to have the ban overturned in court. The evidence is clear: residents of our city are not safe while Mayor Durkan is in office.
A majority of the Seattle City Council has committed to defunding the police by 50%, but the recent violence has shown that we can no longer tolerate the damage Mayor Durkan is doing to our city while in office. Mayor Durkan is a prime obstacle to defunding SPD. After previous acts of violence by SPD multiple city council members called for Mayor Durkan to resign. But now it is time for them to go a step further and begin the process to remove her from office. Will you join us in taking action today and email, tweet, or call your district councilmember and your two city-wide councilmembers Lorena González and Teresa Mosqueda, and tell them that Mayor Durkan must be removed for the safety and security of our city while we work to defund SPD?

The time to take action by defunding the Seattle Police department is now. We are grateful for your leadership, but our city is not safe with Mayor Durkan in control of SPD and she has refused to resign. Mayor Durkan has failed to stop SPD from engaging in violence against its residents, and shows no interest in doing so.
[insert personal reason here you believe the Mayor should be removed from office]
As a [YOUR DISTRICT] resident and your constituent, I ask that you demand her resignation. You must remove her from office to #DefundSPD and end this unnecessary violence so that we can focus on community demands to defund SPD, re-invest in community safety and health, and release all protesters.
